Chocolate Cobbler
This delicious chocolate cobbler is a staple in Texas family-style restaurants. It's easy to make and is ALWAYS a hit. This recipe will make a 8" x 8" square baking dish. If you want a bigger dish (it goes fast!), simply double the recipe. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
This recipe is made in three steps (layers):
1) Cake Batter Layer. Mix together the following ingredients and spread into small baking dish (8" or 9" square pan) that has been sprayed with Baker's Joy spray (or oiled and dusted with flour).
Mix the five dry ingredients (above) well and add the following wet ingredients:
Spread this cake batter layer in your pan. 2) Dry Mix Layer. Mix together these dry ingredients, and then spread over the cake batter layer:
3) Hot Water Step. Simply pour 1.5 cups of very hot tap water over the dry mixture (which has been spread over the cake batter mixture). DO NOT STIR!!! (This is the secret to the pudding/sauce). Bake in. 350 degree oven for 40 minutes or until the cake center is set (the underneath will be soft like hot pudding; you just want the CAKE on the top to be cooked). The edges and underneath should be soft and gooey (like hot chocolate pudding). 4) Let cool for at least 15 minute (If you can! Good luck!!). Serve with homemade ice cream or whipped topping, as desired. Use the gooey pudding sauce to spoon over the cake portion. Incredibly yummy!!!! |
